These days being #green is a buzzword that seems to be everywhere. Its on trucks on the highway, commercials on TV and on products that we buy. Everything has become so 'greenwashed' that its tough to tell who is LEGIT Green, and who has just changed their branding to reflect the social and consumer climate.
The Ontario Wood Program is a government initiative that legitimately promotes the use of material that can be confidently classified as GREEN and SUSTAINABLE. The program is perfect for all of us, and presents itself in three major ways:
Economy- Ontario Wood supports our own provincial economy. From the north to the south, east to the west Ontario is producing, preparing and using wood products. Why look outside of the bounty that we naturally have? Why not support our own? Supporting your neighbours is supporting yourself because one can't exist without the other.
Environment- Ontario Wood only partners with wood experts. The goal of the program is to sustain our environment so that future generations can enjoy what we enjoy to the same level. The program promotes sustainable forestry, so that we can enjoy our wood, without destroying the future. And by buying from Ontarians, we keep things LOCAL. We are not shipping materials and products around the world, burning fuel and emitting carbon. We are dealing with our neighbours, sometimes a walk away.
Pride- Ontario Wood encourages you to explore the artists and artisans in your own backyard. Wonderful things are happening in our province, and this program allows like minds to sit in a common place. It connects suppliers to makers, and makers to the public. We all want great furniture for our house or art for our walls, but what if you could have the perfect piece to your home AND feel the pride of displaying a local artists work? What if you could personally know the person who made the piece of furniture that is the focus of your room? That is the reality of Ontario Wood.
I am advertising this program because it makes sense. It makes sense to me, and to my customers, and it is something worth looking into.
Watch for my products increasingly being branded with the ONTARIO WOOD LOGO
As an maker and artisan, I want to be GREEN. I want to practice my craft in a way that prepares for future generations. I want to make things in a safe way because I don't want to compromise my health for profits. And most importantly, I want to make products that my customers can stand behind and be proud of.
